kerikeri charm

Kerikeri is the home of New Zealand’s oldest European stone building completed in 1836 by an ex-convict from New South Wales. Next door and built in 1821, Kemp House is the country’s oldest wooden building.

Known as the ‘cradle of the nation’, Kerikeri is famed for its arty, slightly alternative lifestyle as well as its history. There are plenty of local painters, potters, wood-carvers and designers on the art and craft trail to visit. Toss in a variety of design orientated stores, surrounded by places serving quite simply the best coffee and lunches you’ve ever tasted, and the result is a pleasant day out.

Don’t miss Rainbow Falls - only a few miles out of town.
